To a solution of 8-(2,6-dimethylbenzylamino)-2-hydroxymethyl-3-methylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine (0.3 g, 1.0 mmol) and triethylamine (0.014 ml, 1.0 mmol) in methylene chloride (10 ml) was added dropwise acetyl chloride (0.071 ml, 1.0 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred for 1.5 h. at room temperature. Water was added and the organic layer was separated, washed with sodium bicarbonate solution, dried (Na2SO4) and evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel using diethyl ether as eluent. Recrystallization from diethyl ether gave 0.16 g (47%) of the desired product.
