To a solution of the title compound of Step C (228 mg, 0.67 mmol) and 2-methyl-2-butene (2M in tetrahydrofuran, 5 ml, 10.0 mmol) in tert-butanol/tetrahydrofuran (1 ml/3 ml) was added slowly a solution of sodium hypochlorite (543 mg, 6.0 mmol) in potassium dihydrogen phosphate aqueous solution (0.6 M, 8 ml). The reaction mixture was stirred for one hour at room temperature. The mixture was acidified with 1N HCl and extracted with ethyl acetate (3×20 ml). The combined organic extracts were washed with 1N HCl (2×40 ml), brine (40 mL), dried, filtered, and concentrated to afford the title compound (241 mg) as a viscous oil which was used in the next step without further purification.
