To a solution of (1-methyl-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-yl)methanol (53 mg, 0.47 mmol) in 2 mL of dichloromethane was added triethylamine (0.13 mL, 0.94 mmol), followed by methanesulfonyl chloride (0.044 mL, 0.56 mmol). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours, then partitioned between EtOAc and water. The organic layer was washed with saturated NaHCO3 solution and brine, dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo to give the title product. ESI+MS: 192.2 [M+H]+.
