To a solution of the compound obtained from step b above (1 eq) in tetrahydrofuran, was added dimethylitaconate (2 eq). The reaction mixture was stirred at 60° C. for 0.5 hours followed by the addition of sodium hypochlorite solution. The resulting reaction mixture was stirred at 60-70° C. for 5-6 hours. Tetrahydrofuran was removed under reduced pressure. The residue thus obtained was diluted with water, extracted with ethyl acetate, washed with saturated sodium chloride solution and water. The reaction mixture was dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate and concentrated under reduced pressure to furnish the title compound.
