A solution of 8-methyl-7-[1-(1-trityl-1H-imidazol-4-yl)vinyl]quinoline (Intermediate M5) (2.14 g, 4.49 mmol) in TFA (40 mL) was reduced by action of 10% Pd/C (0.51 g) under H2 (45-50 psi) for 16 h at rt. The mixture was filtered through celite and the solvent was removed under vacuum. The residue was purified by chromatography on silica gel with 24% NH3-MeOH:CH2Cl2 to give 7-[1-(1H-imidazol-4-yl)ethyl]-8-methylquinoline (Intermediate M6) 834 mg, (79%).
