Procedure

11.77 g of 4-(2-ethoxy-2-oxoethyl)-1,1-dimethylpiperazinium iodide (22) was refluxed in 600 ml water for 48 h. The reaction mixture was evaporated to dryness and the product was crystallized with diethyl ether from ethanol. Yielded white powder 5.484 g (51%). 1H NMR at 300K (D2O): δ 3.30 (6H, s), 3.51 (4H, s), 3.69 (2H, s), 3.73 (4H, bm)
