To a mixture of 6-methoxy-1-[4-(phenylmethoxy)benzyl]-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline (0.36 g, 1 mmol), acetone (3 mL), and sodium dihydrogenphosphate (0.4 g) in methanol (5 mL) was added sodium cyanoborohydride (0.5 g, 8 mmol). After 48 hours, the reaction was quenched with water and extracted with CH2Cl2. The organic layer was dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated to give the title compound (0.321 g, 80% yield): ES-MS (m/z) 402 [M+H]+.
