920 mg (2.9 mmol) 8-bromo-2-chloro-4-ethoxy-5H-pyrimido[5,4-b]indole and 813 mg (9.5 mmol) piperazine were heated in 10 ml mesitylene to 150° C. for 18 h. Then, the solvent was removed and the residue was suspended in water and sucked off. 650 mg (60%) 8-bromo-4-ethoxy-2-(piperazin-1-yl)-5H-pyrimido[5,4-b]indole was obtained.
