Participants
| Role | Name | HCID | Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactant | Acrylic Acid | HCID 6581 | — |
| Reactant | Butyl ethyiphosphonite | HCID 86614949 | — |
| Solvent | Toluene | HCID 1140 | — |
| Product | 3-(Ethylbutoxyphosphinyl)propionic acid | HCID 86656680 | 91% |
Reaction Steps
149 g (1 mol) of butyl ethylphosphonite (produced as in Example 2) and 86 g (1.2 mol) of acrylic acid in 217 g of toluene are heated to about 100° C. While stirring, 124 g of a 10% strength solution of WakoV65 in toluene are metered in. The solvent is distilled off in vacuo to leave 201 g (91% of theory) of 3-(ethylbutoxyphosphinyl)propionic acid.
