A solution of hydrochloric acid (2.5 mL, 4.0 M in 1,4-dioxane) was added to a solution of (2R)-2-methyl-2-(methylsulfonyl)-4-{2-oxo-4-[(E)-2-phenylvinyl]pyridin-1(2H)-yl}-N-(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yloxy)butanamide (40 mg, 0.084 mmol) in 5:1 dichloromethane-methanol (2.5 mL) at 0° C. After 4 h, the reaction was concentrated under reduced pressure. The resulting residue was triturated with 1:1 pentane-diethyl ether, filtered, washed with pentane and dried under reduced pressure to provide a light yellow solid (33 mg, 76%).
