Procedure
A solution of 6-methylnicotinic acid (20 g, 146 mmol) in MeOH (300 ml) was treated with HCl gas until the solvent was saturated. The reaction was capped and stirred for 1.5 h at RT. The mixture was treated again with HCl gas until the solvent was saturated and was capped and stirred overnight at 22° C. The solution was concentrated to yield A-2. Data for A-2: LRMS m/z (M+H): 152.75.
