To 5-hydoxy-pyridine-2-carboxylic acid (2.0 g) in acetone (40 ml) was added potassium carbonate (5.4 g) and 2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropyl trifluoromethanesulfonate (4.3 g) and the reaction mixture was stirred at 22° C. for 4 h. The suspension was diluted with diethyl ether, filtrated, the filtrate was evaporated and the residue purified by chromatography on silica to give 5-(2,2,3,3-tetrafluoro-propoxy)-pyridine-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (2.65 g).
