TBAF (0.24 mL, 0.83 mmol) was added to a solution of 1-methyl-2-(4-trimethylsilanyl-but-3-ynyl)-1H-benzoimidazole (178 mg, 0.69 mmol) in THF (2.5 mL) and the reaction mixture was stirred for 2 hours at room temperature. After the addition of water, the solvent was evaporated and the aqueous phase was extracted with DCM. The organic phase was washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered and evaporated. The crude residue was purified by flash chromatography (cyclohexane/AcOEt 4:1) to yield 90 mg (0.49 mmol, 70%) of 2-but-3-ynyl-1-methyl-1H-benzoimidazole as a brown solid.
