Procedure
To a solution of 5-bromo-1-indanone (2.0 g, 9.5 mmol) in THF (20 mL) was added NaBH4 (0.5 g, 12.8 mmol). After stirring at room temperature overnight, the solution was quenched by addition of water. The resulting solution was extracted with EtOAc twice. The combined EtOAc layers were dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated under vacuum to give 2.0 g of the title compound as a solid. MS calculated for C9H9BrO: (M+H)+ 212.9. found 194.9 (M+H-H2O)+ , 197.0 (M+H-H2O)+.
