A mixture of 10 g of 2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2-methyl-3-butanone, 33.7 g of 3-phenoxybenzaldehyde, 80 ml of methanol and 4.0 g of KOH was stirred at 40° C. for two hours, and then treated in the same manner as described in (a) of (1) of Synthesis Example 1 to give 25 g of 1-(3-phenoxyphenyl)-4-(methoxyphenyl)-4-methyl-1-penten-3-one.
