In a mixture of 2 ml of acetic acid and 2 ml of ethyl acetate is dissolved 0.28 g of N-[N-[(S)-5-(4-piperidyl)-1-carboxypentyl]-L-alanyl]-N-(indan-2-yl)glycine tert-butyl ester, and 5 ml of 5N hydrogen choride-ethyl acetate solution is added to the solution, followed by standing at room temperature for 1 hour. 100 ml of ethyl ether is added to the reaction solution, and the precipitate which separates out is colleted by filtration to give 0.22 g of N-[N-[(S)-1-carboxy-5-(4-piperidyl)pentyl]-L-alanyl]-N-(indan-2yl)glycine.dihydrochloride as a colorless powder.
