Procedure

A solution of 2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)-3-(pyridin-4-yl)-1-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)butan-2-ol (diastereoisomeric pair B from Example 2) (20.0 g) and 85% w/w 3-chloroperoxybenzoic acid (12.3 g) in dichloromethane (250 ml) was stirred at room temperature for 18 hours. Further 3-chloroperoxybenzoic acid (2.50 g) was then added and stirring was continued for 24 hours. The solution was evaporated and the residue was dissolved in ether. A solid formed on standing which was filtered off and chromatographed on silica gel. Elution with dichloromethane/methanol/0.88 ammonia solution (100:4:0.5) gave the title compound as a solid, (20.0 g), m.p. 195°-198°.
