Procedure
3.8 g. (18 mmole) 2-Azido-2-methylpropionic acid 4-hydroxypiperidide are dissolved in 10 ml. methanol and hydrogenated over Raney nickel at ambient temperature and 1 bar hydrogen pressure. After filtering off with suction and evaporation of the filtrate, the residue is reacted in ethanol with oxalic acid. There are obtained 3.0 g. of the oxalate of the title compound; m.p. 197° C. Yield 74% of theory.
