Procedure
A mixture of 71 (2.0 g, 5.8 mmol), PtO2 (0.8 g), CH3OH (50 mL), and CHCl3 (5 mL) were shaken on the Parr apparatus under a hydrogen atmosphere (60 PSI) at ambient temperature for 3 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered through a celite pad and then concentrated to furnish the crude amine HCl 72 as a yellow oil.
