Procedure

To a solution of 4-cyanophenyl isothiocyanate (2.00 g, 12.5 mmol) in THF (50 mL) at room temperature was added a solution of (±) 3,3-dimethyl-2-aminobutane (2.00 mL, 14.5 mmol) in THF (12 mL) and the reaction was stirred overnight at room temperature. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo and the resulting residue was triturated with diethyl ether and filtered to afford 3.12 g (96%) of 1-(4-cyanophenyl)-3-(1,2,2-trimethyl-propyl)-thiourea as a white solid which was used without further purification.
