Procedure

In an analogous manner to that described in Example 36 c), the reaction of (E)-4-[2-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-vinyl]-phenylamine with itaconic acid yields the (RS)-(E)-1-{4-[2-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-vinyl]-phenyl}-5-oxo-pyrrolidine-3-carboxylic acid as a brown solid; MS: m/e=336 (M−H)+.
