3-Isobutyl-4-methoxy-1,3-dihydro-indol-2-one is prepared from 4-methoxyoxindole (3.1 mmol) and 1-iodo-2-methylpropane (3.1 mmol) substantially as described above for Epoxide 1 and Epoxide 2. The compound is purified by flash chromatography (SiO2, 25% ethyl acetate:hexane) to obtain 180 mg (27%) of the desired compound. MS (ESI+) 220.
