The title compound was prepared from ethyl 2-(R/S)-(1-tert-butoxycarbonyl-piperidin-4-yl)-3-(R/S)-hydroxy-butanoate (from Step A) using a procedure analogous to that described in Piperdine 8, Step D. 1H-NMR (500 MHz) δ 1.11–1.22 (m, 2H), 1.27 (t, J=7.0, 3H), 1.41 (s, 9H), 1.57–1.68 (m, 2H), 2.23 (s, 3H), 2.23–2.30 (m, 1H), 2.72 (br s, 2H), 3.27 (d, J=9.5, 1H), 4.09 (br s, 2H), 4.21 (q, J=7.0, 2H).
