Procedure

To a mixture of intermediate (17) (0.0094 mole) in DCM (30 ml), cooled in an ice bath under argon, was added triethylamine (0.031 mole) followed by acetyl chloride (0.031 mole). The resulting mixture was allowed to return to room temperature. After stirring for 6 hours, the mixture was cooled in an ice bath and 50 ml of water was added. The mixture was allowed to stir about 20 minutes, was filtered and the solid was allowed to dry to obtain 1.58 g of 1-acetyl-5-fluoro-2,3-dihydro-1H-indole-2-carboxamide (intermediate 18, mp. 232–235° C.).
