The procedure of Example 37 is repeated using 2,6-dichloroquinoxaline and methyl 4-(4-hydroxyphenoxy)-3-methoxy-2-pentenoate as the starting materials to yield methyl 4-[4-(6-chloro-2-quinoxalyloxy)phenoxy]-3-methoxy-2-pentenoate which is treated with 35% HClO4 to yield the 3-oxo ester. Methyl 4-[4-(6-chloro-2-quinoxalyloxy)phenoxy]-3-oxopentanoate.
