Procedure
31 g (0.1 mol) of 1-bromo-3-(4-chlorobenzyloxy)-methyl-2-butanone in 200 ml of acetone are heated under reflux with 14 g (0.1 mol) of potassium carbonate and 13 g (0.1 mol) of 6-chloro-2-hydroxypyridine for 6 hours. Thereafter, the reaction mixture is poured into water and extracted with methylene chloride. The organic phase is dried over sodium sulphate and concentrated. 31.5 g (89% of theory) of 3-(4-chlorobenzyloxy)-1-(6-chloropyridin-2-yloxy)-3-methyl-2-butanone are obtained as a light-coloured oil. ##STR14##
