Procedure
Iodine (1016 mg, 4 mmol) was added to a mixture of the product from Step A above, triphenylphosphine (1050 mg, 4 mmol) and imidazole (545 mg, 8 mmol) in toluene (20 mL) at 0° C. The reaction mixture was slowly allowed to warm to room temperature and was stirred for 17 h and diluted with CHCl3. The organic solution was washed with sat'd aq NaHCO3, sat'd aq NaCl, dried and concentrated. The crude residue was chromatographed on SiO2-gel using 30% EtOAc/hexanes to yield the product as a yellow oil (450 mg, 35%). API-MS: 485 (M+1). 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3): d 7.8 (d, 1 H), 7.35 (t, 1 H), 7.2 (d, 2 H), 7.1 (d, 1 H), 6.9 (d, 2 H), 5.15 (s, 2 H), 4.1 (t, 2 H), 3.93 (s, 3 H), 3.9 (s, 3 H), 3.15 (t, 2 H), 2.23 (m, 2 H).
