0.5 g of (S)-[1-[[[[2-[[3-[[(1,4-dihydro-5-hydroxy-4-oxo-2-pyridinyl)carbonyl]amino]-2-oxo-1imidazolidinyl]carbonyl]hydrazino]sulfonyl]amino]carbonyl]-2-oxo-3-azetidinyl]carbamic acid, phenylmethyl ester was added to a mixture of 0.5 ml of thioanisole and 2 ml of trifluoroacetic acid. The mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature and evaporated in vacuo. The residue was triturated with ethyl acetate to provide the title compound in quantitative yield.
