PROCEDURE

General Procedure J. A solution of triphenylphosphine (1.2 g, 4.54 mmol) in diethyl ether (10 ml) was added dropwise to a solution of ethyl (2Z,4E)-2-azido-5-(4-ethylphenyl)penta-2,4-dienoate (Compound 44, 1.2 g, 4.54 mmol) in diethyl ether (20 ml) at 0° C. The solution was stirred for 12 hours at room temperature. Evaporation of solvent afforded a crude yellow solid, which was purified by column chromatography (silica gel, 20% ethyl acetate in hexane) to give the title compound.
