To a solution of [1-(3-cyano-4-fluoro-benzenesulfonyl)-2-methyl-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridin-3-yl]-acetic acid methyl ester (Example 54a) (60.7 mg, 0.157 mmol) in acetonitrile (3 ml) is added potassium carbonate (43.3 mg, 0.314 mmol) followed by morpholine (27.6 μl, 0.314 mmol). The reaction mixture is stirred at room temperature for 2 hours and then filtered and concentrated in vacuo to yield the titled compound as an orange oil which is used crude in the next step.
