In a similar procedure to Example 12, Stage 3, ethyl 6-fluoro-7-hydroxymethyl-2-trifluoromethyl-[1,8]-naphthyridine-3-carboxylate was reacted with N,N-diethylaminosulfur trifluoride to give the required product. as a pale brown solid, 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ: 8.74 (1H, s), 8.03 (1H, d), 5.83 (2H, double doublet), 4.51 (1H, q), 1.45 (3H, t).
