A mixture of methyl 3-(1-aminoethyl)benzoate (120 mg, 0.67 mmol), 2,6-dichloropyrazine (150 mg, 1 mmol) and potassium carbonate (280 mg, 2 mmol) in dioxane (5 mL) was heated in a microwave reactor at 150° C. for 6 hours. After this time the mixture was cooled to room temperature, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give a yellow oil which was purified by flash chromatography (silica, ethyl acetate/hexanes) to give methyl 3-{1-[(6-chloropyrazin-2-yl)amino]ethyl}benzoate (30 mg, 15%) as a pale yellow oil.
