Procedure
In a 50 ml pear flask was added 2-methyl-7-phenylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidin-5-amine (10A, 200 mg, 0.89 mmol) in pyridine (5 ml) to give a light yellow solution. A solution of methyl 3-(4-(chlorocarbonyl)phenyl)-3-methylbutanoate (230 mg, 0.89 mmol) in dichloromethane (1 ml) was added to the reaction mixture at room temperature, which was then stirred for 72 h. Saturated NaHCO3 was added and pyridine was mostly removed in vacuo. The residue was partitioned between saturated NaHCO3 and ethyl acetate, and the aqueous layer was extracted one more time with ethyl acetate. Combined organic layers were dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated. The crude product was purified by column chromatography (SiO2, 30-40% ethyl acetate/hexanes) to give the titled product (60 mg, 15% yield) as a yellow foam. 1H NMR(CHLOROFORM-d) δ: 8.61 (s, 2H), 8.10-8.15 (m, 8H), 7.87-7.92 (m, 5H), 7.54-7.59 (m, 8H), 7.50-7.54 (m, 5H), 6.28 (s, 2H), 3.54 (s, 8H), 2.68-2.71 (m, 5H), 2.50 (s, 8H), 1.49 (s, 6H); ESI-MS: m/z 443.3 (M+H)+.
