A mixture of 3-quinolin-6-ylbut-3-en-1-ol (1.0 g, 0.0050 mol), platinum on carbon (5 wt. % supported on activated carbon, wet, Degussa type F101 ra/w, 0.20 g) in methanol (15.0 mL) was stirred under hydrogen (with a balloon) at RT for 5 h. The mixture was filtered and the filtrate was concentrated to give the desired product (1.0 g, 99%). LCMS: (M+H)=202.1.
