To a stirred solution of 1-(benzo[c][1,2,5]oxadiazol-5-yl)-4-methyl-4-(trimethylsilyloxy)pent-2-yn-1-one (0.45 g, 1.490 mmol) in DCM (15 mL) was added p-TSA (0.341 g, 1.790 mmol) at RT and the reaction mixture was stirred for 3 h. The reaction mixture was then diluted with water (5 mL) and the layers were separated. The combined organic layers were washed with a saturated NaHCO3 solution and water, dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and then concentrated in vacuo to afford 1-(benzo[c][1,2,5]oxadiazol-5-yl)-4-hydroxy-4-methylpent-2-yn-1-one (0.3 g, 87%) as an oil.
