Procedure
A mixture of methyl 1-(2-methoxyethyl)-2-methyl-8-phenyl-1,6,7,8-tetrahydrochromeno[7,8-d]imidazole-5-carboxylate (1.37 g, 3.61 mmol, Step 11), 2 mol/L sodium hydroxide aqueous solution (3.60 mL, 7.21 mmol), and ethanol (20 mL) was stirred at 80° C. for 2 hours. After cooling to room temperature, 2 mol/L hydrochloric acid (3.60 mL, 7.21 mmol) was added, and the formed precipitate was collected by filtration to afford the title compound as a white solid (1.28 g, 96%).
