3-(4-Chloro-6-fluoro-3-methyl-2-nitrophenyl)-1-methyl-6-trifluoromethyl-2,4(1H, 3H)-pyrimidinedione (2.0 g, 5.2 mmol) was dissolved in acetic acid (20 ml) and iron powder (1.2 g, 21.5 mmol) was added. Solution was stirred at ambient temperature for 14 hr. Water was added and product extracted with ethyl acetate followed by evaporation under reduced pressure. Title compound was separated by column chromatography on silica gel (eluent, hexane-ethyl acetate, 7:3; 1.5 g).
