Into a four-necked flask, were charged 70.17 parts of tetrahydrothiophene and 750 parts of acetone, to which 150 parts of 1-bromopinacolone was added dropwise, followed by stirring at room temperature for 24 hours. The precipitated crystal was collected by filtration, and washed with 100 parts of tert-butylmethyl ether, and dried to obtain 161.3 parts of 3,3-dimethyl-2-oxobutyl thiacyclopentanium bromide.
