A solution of 0.2 g of the product of Step A, 0.2 g of ethyl bromopyruvate and 15 ml of anhydrous tetrahydrofuran was stirred at room temperature for 24 hours and was filtered to obtain 0.1 g of 1-carbethoxycarbonylmethyl-2-amino-6,7-dichloro-quinoxalinium bromide as a pale yellow crystalline solid. The filtrate was allowed to stand for several days and was then filtered to obtain 0.065 g of the said compound as a yellowish brown solid for a total yield of 0.165 g.
