1-(3,3-Dimethoxy-propyl)-5-(6-methyl-pyridin-3-yl)-1H-pyrimidine-2,4-dione (Prep 58, 240 mg, 0.78 mmol) was dissolved in THF (4 mL) and 1N solution of HClaq (1.5 mL) was added. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours and then warmed at 45° C. and stirred for an additional hour at this temperature. After neutralization with a 5% solution of NaHCO3 the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic phase was dried (Na2SO4) and evaporated to give the title compound as foam (90 mg, 45% yield).
