Procedure

A solution of 1.0 g (4.8 mmol) of methyl 4-(2-(S)-butoxy)benzoate in 15 mL of MeOH was treated with 1 mL of 5.0 N NaOH at rt for 1 h. The solution was concentrated, acidified with 6 mL of 2 N HCl, extracted with EtOAc, dried over MgSO4 and concentrated to afford 800 mg (86%) of the title compound.
