1-(3,3-Dimethoxy-propyl)-5-(6-fluoro-pyridin-2-yl)-1H-pyrimidine-2,4-dione (Prep76, 179 mg, 0.58 mmol) was dissolved in THF (4 ml) and 2N HClaq (0.5 ml) was added. The solution was then stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. THF was evaporated under vacuum and the aqueous residue was lyophilized to give 170 mg of a yellow powder that was used in the next step without further purification (quantitative yield).
