Acetic acid (9.4 mmol) was added to 3-Methoxy-4-[2-(4-methyl-thiazol-5-yl)-ethoxy]-benzaldehyde (6) (2.3 mmol) and DL-α-amino-ε-caprolactam (2.3 mmol) in minimal amount of methanol and stirred for 2 h. MeOH (0.2 M) was added followed by NaH3BCN (2.3 mmol), and the reaction was stirred for 19 h. The product (7) was obtained by purification upon reverse phase HPLC.
