The product from step (i) (0.8 g) in dry dichloromethane (15 ml) was treated with trifluoroacetic acid (5 ml). After 6 hours at room temperature the mixture was azeotroped with toluene. The residue was dissolved in ethyl acetate and washed with aqueous sodium bicarbonate. The organic solution was dried (MgSO4) and evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was triturated with ethyl acetate/isohexanes and filtered. Yield 0.53 g.
