3-Nitrobenzenesulfonyl chloride (1.70 g, 7.67 mmol) was added to an ice cooled solution of (R)-(-)-N-carbobenzyloxy-3-[2-fluoro-4-[5-hydroxymethyl-2-oxo-3-oxazolidinyl]-pheny]azetidine (Example 81, Step 5, 2.79 g, 6.97 mmol) and triethylamine (1.41 g, 14.0 mmol) in methylene chloride (40 mL). After 16 hr, water (50 mL) and methylene chloride (100 mL) were added. The organic layer was washed with brine (50 mL), dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and evaporated. The residue was chromatographed over silica gel (150 g, 40-60 μm) eluting with 25-100% ethyl acetate-hexane to give the title compound as a sticky foam.
