Procedure

To a solution of 5.0 g (29.0 mmol) of diethyl chlorophosphate in 70 mL dichloroethane cooled on an ice bath was added 4.1 g (63.8 mmol) of ethylamine (70% ag). The mixture was allowed to stir at RT for 30 min and was then partitioned between ether and water. The organic layer was washed with brine, dried (MgSO4), and was filtered. The filtrate was evaporated in vacuo and the residue was kugelrohr distilled (0.8 torr, 90° C.) to yield 2.7 g (52%) of diethyl N-ethylphosphoramidate as a colorless oil.
