PROCEDURE

To t-butyl 7-bromo-1-methyl-2,3-dihydro-1-benzazepine-4-carboxylate (4.0 g), 4-ethoxyphenyl borate (2.35 g), 1M potassium carbonate solution (25 ml) and ethanol (25 ml) was added toluene (100 ml), and the mixture was stirred under argon atmosphere at room temperature for 30 minutes. To the mixture was added tetrakistriphenylphosphine palladium (0.55 g), and the mixture was ref luxed under argon atmosphere overnight. The organic layer was washed with water and saturated brine, and dried with anhydrous magnesium sulfate. Under reduced pressure, the solvent was evaporated, and the residue was purified with silica gel column (ethyl acetate/hexane) to give t-butyl 7-(4-ethoxyphenyl)-1-methyl-2,3-dihydro-1-benzazepine-4-carboxylate (4.0 g) as yellow crystals.
