Procedure
In 30 ml of anhydrous ethyl ether, 6.2 g (0.2 mole) of methyl amine was dissolved and cooled below 0° C. Then a solution prepared by dissolving 24.1 g (0.1 mole) of 4-ethyl-2-methyl-4-phenylallophanoyl chloride in 80 ml of anhydrous dichloroethane was added dropwise under stirring. The reaction was continued at a room temperature for 1 hour, the reaction mixture was washed with water and dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent was removed by distillation to obtain a residue, and the residue was recrystallized from ether-petroleum ether to obtain 17.6 g (yield 75%) of 1-ethyl-3,5-dimethyl-1-phenylbiuret having a melting point of 57°-58° C.
