Procedure

A sample of alpha tetralone (Aldrich, 36.5 g, 0.25 mol) was converted to the title material by the method of EXAMPLE 50 using 19.5 g (0.3 mol) of sodium azide in a mixture of 300 mL of conc H2SO4 and 100 mL of CH2Cl2. This procedure yielded after recrystalization from EtOH 12.1 g (30%) of the title product.
