Procedure

A mixture of intermediate (2) and methanimidamide acetate (2.4 mol) in 1-butanol (1500 ml) was stirred and refluxed for 5 hours and then stirred further for 48 hours. The precipitate was filtered off and washed with DIPE, yielding 48 g of 2,4-dihydro-4-(4-nitrophenyl) -3H-1,2,4-triazol-3-one (intermediate 3).
